hot off the press..

I recently teamed up with a local printer to recreate some of my applique and block print styles as screen prints.

A big wheel t-shirt emerging from the dryer.

I had so much fun choosing ink colors. This dino combo is a little flashback to my love of neon back in the 80s.

As much as I love to sew, and create very tactile, labor intensive, unique t-shirts and onesies, I must say I absolutely love the production speed of screen printing!! In the time it took us to make 36 Big Wheels, I would probably have finished only 6 applique styles. Sign me up! I'll definitely be adding more screen printed styles to my collection. To see the current batch, visit the Wonder Threads shop.

Oh and I finally created a facebook page! Like!

Happy Earth Day!

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I came across some beautiful little flower gardens at the Aria Hotel shopping mall. I had to touch these amazing poppies to confirm they were real and not paper!

Happy Earth Day!

iPad sleeve

Hey, check out my iPad sleeve nestled among 100 fun products on New York Magazine's Shop-A-Matic New Spring finds! It was recommended by Mackenzi, who sells my sleeves at her fantastic gift shop Site in Long Island City. Thanks Mackenzi!

chocolate guinness cupcakes

I was inspired to bake some festive(ish) cupcakes for St. Patrick's day...

...after finding this GORGEOUS cake made by Katie Quinn Davies of What Katie Ate.

I actually used a recipe found on Smitten Kitchen, but simplified a bit by skipping the ganache filling, and using just plain cream cheese frosting. 'twas good!

taste the rainbow

My birthday was Sunday. I'd been noticing rainbow cakes around the blogosphere, and decided making one would be the best way to celebrate (along with friends and family, of course!)

I used this recipe found on Martha Stewart for the cake, then made my own buttercream frostings. It's got to be chocolate for me!

The red and purple were a little off, but overall I was in love with this cake. Cutting out the first slice of rainbow was so exciting! Everyone loved it. I highly recommend making this cake...if you've got a little time and some patience...

A Cinderella moment

Once upon a time, on a sunny and crisp afternoon last October, I sat down for lunch at an outdoor cafe on Newbury Street in Boston. I was dining alone until this unexpected guest hopped over to my plate.

So super cute, even if a bit presumptuous. I was happy to share, since this really cracked me up (and I was finished eating). It felt a little like a scene out of a Disney movie. Now if I could only get some little animals to sew for me....

Eyeing another bite.

New Website!

Wonder Threads has a new website. It's a simple diy type thing, which is VERY different from my first website, and exactly what I need. Yay! It's a good starting off point, or should I say re-starting off point. It will evolve over time, and become a little fancier eventually. For now, I'm happy.
With this new website comes a renewed interest in blogging. I've pretty much sucked at it over the past year, but I'm re-starting here as well. I've been wanting to play a little catch up, sooo....here's what 2010 looked like for me...

January 2010-- Grandma's 80th birthday.
We invited an Elvis impersonator, of course!

February 2010--Spent Presidents Day weekend in Ocean City, NJ.

March 2010--took a birthday trip! First to Amsterdam...

Then to Paris...

April 2010-- I took Flat Stanley to FAO Schwarz

Made some dishes from the Athlete's Palate cook book,
like this cassoulet (substituted quinoa for beans).

May 2010--A trip to Boston for the annual
Mayfair street fair in Harvard Square (very rhyme-y).

An amazing chalk drawing of one of my fave paintings.

Added some block print styles.

June 2010-- Made some very red velvet cupcakes...

using this recipe.

July 2010-- Used the fireworks setting on my camera.

Took a trip around Manhattan on the Circle Line (toot toot!).

Had a photo shoot with little cuties, Zoe and Charlotte.

I got some great shots before their patience ran out...

August 2010--
The Bronx Zoo!

September 2010-- An evening in Atlantic City

Absolutely fell in love with the Beales.

October 2010--
Halloween!

November 2010--
Ice Skates!

December 2010-- Mini Christmas Tree

Christmas Card

January 2010--
Made this little felt project found on the Purl Bee.

Whew! That's it, we're caught up. Stay tuned...

Happy Halloween (yesterday)

I found these gems in my parents' basement. Price stickers on the back read 19 cents! Pretty sure they've been around since the 70s, and they are still going strong.

It's time to catch up.

Wow little blog, I've really neglected you over the past 10 months! I'll be sharing what I've been up to with a little catch up series, so we can get reacquainted.

Over the summer, I was fortunate to have enough freelance work to allow me time to step back from Wonder Threads-ing, and think about how I want to move forward with my company. It looked a lot like this...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I'm back to business now though, so keep in touch for new stuff soon!

Wonder Threads + MOMA!

I'd been selling my Laptop Sleeves at a slow but steady pace, until a chance meeting with a buyer from the Museum of Modern Art Store... Three wholesale orders later, I'm ecstatic to have all the stock gone from my shelf, and featured on MOMA's shelves!!!
Check 'em out-- only at the MOMA stores (not online or in the catalog.)

It's been such a great experience, I've decided to make more. I'm currently in the middle of producing both 13" and 15" Laptop Sleeves. They'll be ready soon...stay tuned....

PS...
The sleeves can also be found at Oak Boston. It's a super cute boutique on Newbury Street in Boston.
